The AURA series is the ultimate custom tool for short starts and precise lines of terrain flight in the BASE environment. It is designed specifically for the world's most demanding wingsuit BASE jumpers. If you take wingsuit BASE jumping very seriously and have put in the time and the training, then the A2 has what you're looking for.
- Shortest start arc
- Pull / brake access remains comfortable
- Increased speed over A1
- Increased glide performance over A1
- Less physical, with a more rigid feel
- Improved handling
The AURA 2 retains all of the characteristics that have made the original AURA the most popular wingsuit in BASE jumping, but builds on the AURA legacy with significant performance improvements. Our mission for the A2 was to create a suit that was as comfortable as the original AURA, but with increased speed and glide.
The design brief for this new suit was simple: increase speed and glide, without increasing surface area or reducing comfort and ease of use. We are confident that the A2 will exceed the expectations of the many pilots who have been waiting for this suit.
What AURA pilots will notice first about the A2 is a feeling of increased power and reduced effort. Higher efficiency has increased start arc performance and glide. Thanks to reduced drag and a refined arm and leg wing profile, the A2 is faster at all angles.
THE START ARC
The AURA series opened most of Moab and many technical new exit points across the American West and the Alps. If a short start is a priority for you but you don’t want to lose speed and handling, then you’ve found what you’re looking for.
In terms of pure glide, the A2 goes further than any other suit in the Squirrel range. Surface area is a critical factor for wingsuit glide performance, and the A2 is the largest surface area suit in our range. It’s big, but not unwieldy.
We wanted the A2 to feel smoother and more compact than its predecessor. We achieved this by increasing the rigidity of the leading edge, and reducing drag in several key areas. Pilots will notice that the A2 feels more rigid and more precise than the original, with improved flare power and an incredibly powerful feel in turns.
The A2 features a higher top speed than its predecessor, and feels considerably smoother when flown at steep and fast angles. The A2's speed is accessible, and requires no special tricks to engage. Simply stretch the suit lengthwise and steepen your angle.
Although most pilots tend to focus strongly on speed and glide, a large part of our focus remains on safety and comfort. The A2's glideskin section at the wingtip allows a clean and comfortable pull, and easy brake toggle access. No amount of performance is worth a compromise in safety. The thickness of the arm wing profile and the leading edge were designed with this in mind, and the A2's pull is cleaner than most other wingsuits of smaller size. Watch this.
Every season, more pilots discover the possibility of flying up in a wingsuit as they move away from suits in which it is not possible. The A2's flare power is the result of a balanced CG, a very powerful arm wing, and a more efficient leading edge. These factors make gaining altitude easier than it has ever been before. While gaining altitude after a dive is not an important part of wingsuit BASE jumping, having a powerful flare at your disposal is important. The A2's flare allows you to disconnect and distance yourself from terrain instantly and with great authority.
ONE WING TO RULE THEM ALL?
No wingsuit, unfortunately, is perfect for every type of wingsuit flying. In order to try and make the A2 as versatile as possible, the leading edge foam is removable and changeable. To increase ease of BOC / brake access in the BASE environment, remove the foam. For increased speed and rigidity, choose between the two types of leading edge foams that are delivered with your suit.
Our priority was a short start arc combined with stability at steep angles and a high top speed. The A2's "traditional" leg wing design prevents unwanted diving at exit, allowing early flight and minimum altitude loss on technical BASE jumps. Like the original AURA, the A2 is as comfortable at 1:1 as it is at >3.5:1.
Experienced wingsuit flyers with several seasons of experience will adapt to the A2 quickly. Respecting the learning curve is essential, and the payoff is a suit with an incredible amount of inherent performance. Do not expect the AURA 2 to be "magic", or to change your life overnight. The A2 should be considered a "big" suit, which requires big suit training and fitness. The expensive part is not the wingsuit - the expensive part is skydiving, training, traveling to the right locations to progress responsibly, and taking the time to make a safe progression. Only proper training will unlock performance.
The A2 is significantly more fun than the original AURA in the skydive environment. If your main focus is skydiving with only a couple of short BASE trips during the year, then we recommend a smaller surface area model for your primary suit. The C2 and FREAK are less physical, more maneuverable, and generally easier to fly. The C-RACE offers higher speed and glide performance.
